31st March 2021 is the last date to link your PAN to your Aadhaar and it is almost here.
Don’t worry if you haven’t linked your Aadhaar to your PAN yet. You can do it easily online within a few minutes.
Importance of linking PAN with Aadhaar
If you have mentioned your PAN & Aadhaar while filing ITR in the previous assessment years, chances are that they already might be linked to each other. It is done by the income tax department if PAN and Aadhaar are already available to them.
Steps to Check your PAN Aadhaar Linkage:
Step 1: Go to income tax e-filing website
Step 2: Click on Link Aadhaar under the Quick Links part.
Step 3: Click on ‘Click here to view the status if you have already submitted Link Aadhaar request’ that is present on the topmost part.
Step 4: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number. Click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.
Step 5: You will see your account status.
Steps to Link PAN with Aadhaar
If you find that your account is not linked with your Aadhaar, you can easily link it by following these simple steps.
Please make sure that the Aadhaar number and name as per Aadhaar is exactly the same as printed on your Aadhaar card. If your Aadhaar card has only year of birth, then you must also tick the option: 'I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card'.
Later, you will get a notification stating that your PAN is successfully linked to Aadhaar.
How to link PAN with Aadhaar through SMS
You can send an SMS to either of the PAN service providers namely NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited or UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITL). You can simply send an SMS in a specific format to either 567678 or 56161.
To link, type UIDPAN<12 digit Aadhaar><10 digit PAN> to either 567678 or 56161.
NSDL and UTI won't charge you a fee for this. However, SMS charges as levied by the mobile operator will be applicable.
To link your PAN to your Aadhaar through online methods, an Aadhaar OTP will be generated if the details of your Aadhaar don’t match with those of your PAN. You will have to enter that OTP online to continue and complete the linking process. You will be redirected to the final page automatically if your Aadhaar details match your PAN details.
Check the status of PAN and Aadhaar linking through the website, if you have opted for the SMS or the offline linking procedure.
Things to remember before linking PAN with Aadhaar
Link your PAN to your Aadhaar before 31st March, 2021 to continue using your PAN. Linking your PAN to your Aadhaar number is easy and comes with different benefits. If you haven’t done it yet, do it online now. The process just takes a few minutes.
